One local teacher named Sam Sandrate wants to help ease the difficulties of bullying and academics through a non-profit she created called “CAS” or “Committed to Assisting Students.”

“If students didn’t need stress management we would never hear tragic stories in the news,” Sandrate said. “That is the point of my program.”

Sandrate created a stress management lesson plan for students of all ages and hosts after-school classes for free.

One parent, whose two daughters attend said: “We saw it online at first and just building confidence was the main reason because one of our daughters is pretty shy and gets frustrated easy. So we thought this would be a good tool for her to learn some confidence.”

Sandrate says through CAS her hope is to prevent tragedy, in younger students.

“If we teach kids to prevent stress to the point where it causes these harmful tragic behaviors, we will live in a world where we never have to report these things,” she said

The next after-school meeting for parents and kids will be at 4:30 p.m. April 10 at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2727 Airline Road.
