The Optimist Coastal Bend Chess Federation holds monthly chess tournaments at the Dr. Garza Gonzalez Charter School on Greenwood.
The group says playing chess helps kids in many different ways.
Jennifer Juarez President of the Optimist Coastal Bend Chess Federation told us, “it teaches patience, it teaches them responsibility, they have to learn how to be a good sport. and its said to help increase their math scores as well.”
Kids as young as four and as old as seniors in high school can participate.
