Mayor announces six City Manager candidates

The Corpus Christi City Council held a special called meeting Wednesday morning, in which they announced six candidates for Corpus Christi City Manager.

It has been nearly ten months since Margie Rose resigned from the position. The city hired Slavin Management Consultants, an outside search firm, to assist them in hiring Rose’s replacement back in October.

Earlier this week, concerned citizens said that by not publishing the names of candidates, they felt city officials were not being transparent about the search for a new city manager.

At the time, Mayor Joe McComb said the list was not being published because of the risk of jeopardizing candidates at their current jobs.

“I think people just need to be patient. You asked the council to do their job and we’re doing our due diligence,” McComb said. “I’m not interested in character assassination or ruining somebody’s career just because somebody’s curious about who’s gonna get this job.”

However on Wednesday, the mayor said several reports by the media prompted the decision to release the names of candidates.
