UPDATE: DPS officials confirm a third child, Aubree Galle, 5-years-old, has died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The investigation into a crash between a car and a train that killed two children will continue today.
Aiden and Jacoby Posada, ages 12 and 8, were killed Saturday morning just south of Mathis after a car disregarded a train crossing sign and was hit by a train, according to Sgt. Nathan Brandley with DPS.
A five-year-old girl and the male driver of the car were rushed to different hospitals in critical condition. The girl later died of her injuries.
State troopers will try to determine if the driver did not see or hear the train.
“They’re blowing their whistle, coming through this stopped intersection here,” Brandley said. “Unfortunately, we don’t have any arms here, we just have a stop sign, and of course the crossing signs as well.”
None of the children were restrained in the vehicle, Brandley said, and the five-year-old girl was not in a child car seat.
Sunday afternoon, the father of Aiden and Jacoby Posada says a woman created a GoFundMe account for raising money for the children’s funeral costs. However, the father says he along with his family do not know of this woman and asked the public to not donate to the account.
