Many volunteers gathered at the beach to make a positive impact on the area.

About twenty volunteers from Picking Up Plastic or better known as P.U.P partnered and participated with Keep Port Aransas Beautiful to pick up trash at Horace Caldwell Pier.

These organizations not only want to make a positive impact on the beach but also want to protect the sea life as well.

Bottles and bags can confuse mammals having them think that certain items of trash are food.

“Hundreds of thousands of marine mammals every year die from plastic ingestion,”  PUP’s Caitlin Cox said. “So much of it is preventable by starting by cleaning up and then cutting back on our single plastic usage. We can make a huge impact.”

To help others make a difference the group created P.U.P. bags. These bags can be placed on your four-legged friend, whenever you are out walking and find trash on the ground.

Organizers say this movement is focused on helping keep the Earth clean one walk at a time.
