Middle school students at Incarnate Word Academy had a big surprise for the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.

IWA invited Carole Murphrey, the Executive Director of Good Samaritan Mission, to speak to the students after this morning’s mass. What she didn’t know was they invited her over to present her with a check for $941. The students collected the money during the masses held during the Advent season.

Murphrey said she was beyond blessed to receive the donation. “I didn’t know this was going to happen. I was totally shocked and just blessed beyond belief,” Murphrey said, “These kids are fantastic. They love the lord. They love each other. They love the poor. They’re living lives that are honorable to the Lord. They’re generosity just blows me away. I cannot believe that they were able to raise that much.”

Murphrey said the donations will help the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, which has a large campus. It has been serving about 200 people a night but is expected to help 250 with the cold weather that’s expected this weekend.

“You know gifts like this are just fantastic. We thank the Lord for them and the Coastal Bend,” Murphrey added.
