The victim of the fatal Christmas Eve pedestrian accident has been identified by the medical examiner
Matthew Johnson, 32, was hit and killed by a truck while attempting to cross Waldron Rd. on Monday.
Police say that Johnson was not using a crosswalk when he was hit by a Dodge truck. The driver of the truck remained on scene and does not face any charges at this time, officials say.
Johnson was taken to Bay Area Hospital after the crash, where he was pronounced dead.
15 pedestrians have been killed by cars in Corpus Christi this year.
“People just feel that they can cross any part of the roadway at any time they want to,” says Corpus Christi Police Department Lt. Timothy Frazier.
That sort of “bullet-proof pedestrian” mentality is what Frazier believes gets some people hit by cars. They don’t use crosswalks, putting themselves and drivers at risk.
“That’s just a recipe for disaster right there,” says Frazier.
