Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi handed out food baskets and toys to nearly 1,500 people this morning. The donations were made possible with the help of the Kenedy Memorial Foundation, H.E.B. and Toys for Tots.

Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi Administrator Yiyi Dean said about 70 volunteers, including the Moody High School baseball team, helped prepare for today’s event. “We wish by doing this that everyone can have a warm meal during Christmas and no child will go without a toy,” Dean said.

Catholic Charities Housing Counselor Amanda Lazo said this is something Catholic Charities is happy to do every year. “The community is accustomed to it. They kind of depend on it and look forward to it and it’s just a good way to give back to the families in our area and the community,” Lazo said.

Catholic Charities has been giving out food baskets for the last 52 years. Toys for Tots has been taking part for the last 37 years.
