County Judge Loyd Neal presided over his last commissioner’s court meeting today.  Commissioners joined other civic leaders in bidding the retiring judge farewell.

Commissioner Brent Chesney spoke on behalf of the court in thanking not only Neal for his service as county judge but his wife as well for her patience and sacrifices.  She humbly accepted a bouquet of flowers.  Each commissioner took turns sharing memories and thanking him for being a mentor and role model as a servant leader.

Port of Corpus Christi Authority Chairman, Charlie Zahn, also took a moment to formally acknowledge Neal’s contributions to the community.  Zahn told the court the I-69 Alliance recently honored Neal for 19 years of service to the citizens of Texas.  The Metropolitan Planning Organization, which distributes the federal funding for transportation projects, thanked Judge Neal for his service with an eagle statue.  Zahn also presented the retiring civic leader with a resolution from the Port Authority.

Judge Neal is retiring at the end of the year.  Barbara Canales will serve as Nueces County Judge at the start of 2019.
