Pearl Harbor: USS Lexington to hold remembrance ceremony

and last updated

77 years ago today, more than 2,000 Americans died in the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Imperial Navy.

Many United States battleships and airplanes were also destroyed in the surprise attack. Just one day later, the U.S. declared war on Japan, thrusting the nation into World War II.

Several remembrance ceremonies will take place today across the nation, including one on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi.

In Navy tradition, a wreath will be laid in the water followed by the playing of “Taps.”

That ceremony begins at 2 p.m. on USS Lexington.
