During the holiday season, we know of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about the time of year when you give back to those who need it most? This is how Giving Tuesday got started 6 years ago.

Giving Tuesday or #GivingTuesday, has become a global movement fueled by social media, to kick off the charitable season.

In Corpus Christi, one local organization is hoping to gain the attention of others on this gracious holiday. The CHRISTUS Spohn Foundation operates the CHRISTUS Spohn Kieschnick Guest House, a home away from home for patients and their families while loved ones are in the hospital.

“If you have an early morning procedure and you live 30 minutes outside of the city limits,” says Kieschnick Coordinator Jane Dykes, “then you can come in the night before and wake up early and go right across the street to the hospital for your procedure.”

Dykes says guests believe the Kieschnick Guest House is “a blessing” because of the comfort it brings for patients and their loved ones.

All donations from #GivingTuesday will go straight to the upkeep of the Kieschnick house as well as providing amenities for guests during their stay.

For one night at the Kieschnick Guest House, it costs $25. No pets or children under 12 allowed.

The Kieschnick Guest House will also be holding a Fall Sale Fundraiser on Thursday and Friday to sell a few items stocked up in the guest house. The fall sale is open to the community.

Dykes also says the Kieschnick House accepts donations of all kinds to help support their guests.

Other local charities that are participating in #GivingTuesday include: The Salvation Army Corpus Christi, Center for Coastal Cities, The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi, Burn Pits 360 Veterans Organization, and the Texas State Aquarium.
