Numbers took a hit for the Texas Jazz Festival this year.

The festival took place from Oct. 19 through 21, with refreshment ticket sales from inside the free event down about 25 percent from last year. Rainy weather may have led to smaller crowds on Friday and Saturday but Sunday was a good day, according to Emilio Reyes, president of the Texas Jazz Festival.

Reyes estimates between 17,000 and 18,000 attended this year’s event.

“At the end of the day, we were able to make enough money for the scholarship program and endowment fund,” Reyes said.

The endowment fund is with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and the City of Corpus Christi.

The other portion of money raised will help fund two scholarships to Del Mar College’s Music Department and two scholarships for Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
