Local runners will have the unique opportunity to run the runway Nov. 17 at Corpus Christi International Airport.

It will be the first time a run will be staged on airport grounds with a 5K and a special 1K race for children.

All proceeds will benefit USO South Texas.

The race will be chip-timed with multiple age groups and awards going out to top three finishers in 12 age categories, male and female, as well as an overall male and female winner. Awards for the winners will be unique, custom-made for the event.

Also, the first 500 finishers will get medals at the finish line.

T-shirts will be guaranteed to first 500 registrants.

Registration will be $30 until Nov. 9. After that, cost will be $35. Cost for those 14 and under through race day will be $15. Kids running in the 1K are free.

Packet pick-up will be Friday Nov. 16 at the Del Mar Hangar at the airport on Glasson Drive from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Patriot Guard Riders will “ride” the runway to warm it up for the runners on race day.
