Police recently found a credit card skimmer device on a gas pump in Aransas Pass. In a press release issued today, Aransas Police say they were contacted on October 30 after a clerk at a Snappy’s noticed the device when he was attempting to connect a skimmer-prevention device.
It is unknown as to how long the skimmer device may have been connected to the pump. Police advise that anyone that may have used a credit or debit card at gas pump number 6 at the Snappy’s on 2607 W. Wheeler to check his or her financial statements. Report any unauthorized transactions to the financial institution and also report those charges to the police.
Police advise to inspect the security tape on the pump and make sure the seal is not broken.
Consider using a refillable prepaid card to pay for gas at the pumps or pay inside the store. Police also say paying with a credit card offers better fraud protection than paying with a debit card.
