Water releases have increased from Lake Corpus Christi, as a second wave of floodwaters enters the area.
City officials say they are closely monitoring water levels of the at-capacity lake, and as of this morning, three of the lake’s flood gates are currently open and a fourth gate is partially open.
The city says the effects of the latest releases are expected to be seen beginning on Thursday, with continued major flooding anticipated in Bluntzer, along low-lying areas of the Nueces River, and moderate flooding expected in Calallen. County Road 73, Hazel Bazemore Park and Labonte Park are also expected to be impacted.
Another wave of water has been identified in the Nueces River currently moving toward Three Rivers which may result in additional releases and sustained flooding into November, the city says.
The current capacity of area reservoirs are:
- Choke Canyon Reservoir: 51.7%
- Lake Corpus Christi Reservoir: 100%
- Combined Capacity: 65.2%
- Lake Texana: 100%
