Lucy Rubio has resigned from the Corpus Christi City Council.

She made the announcement during today’s council meeting.

Rubio said she will be taking her seat as the Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Place 3. She won the primary in March and doesn’t have an opponent in the Nov. 6 election.

County Judge Loyd Neal will swear her in on Nov. 14.

Rubio said she remained on the City Council to help with the budget process and to help select a firm to replace the new city manager.

Her work on the council was rewarding, she said. She added she was proud of the recent achievements in the district, including the building of Fire Station 18 on Ayers Street near Saratoga Boulevard.

“My motto has been since I got here ‘District 3 is open for business’ and many good things have been accomplished in District 3,” Rubio said. “None of this could have happened without council approval. So, thank you so much for being there for me and District 3.

“It’s been a privilege and an honor to have served in the City of Corpus Christi.”

Rubio has represented District 3 for the nearly four years.
