A woman was taken to the hospital after she told officers a truck backed into her in a parking lot.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m at the corner of Artesian and Antelope Streets.

The woman, who had only minor injuries, told police she was hit by a truck in the parking lot of the South Texas Substance Abuse and Recovery building while the truck was backing up. The woman was up and talking to paramedics at the scene and was complaining of back pain. She was taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

The driver of the truck involved is in some trouble after officers discovered he had no driver’s license, his ID card is suspended, he had no insurance and the tags were expired on the truck, according to Officer Richard Olden with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

The driver will receive at least one ticket for no insurance and his vehicle was impounded.

“Some of the reasons why our insurance here in South Texas is so high is because of what I just said. A lot of drivers don’t have insurance, a lot of drivers don’t have a drivers license,” Olden said. “There’s a lot of people here in Corpus Christi who are driving like that and our job is to find those people and take the vehicles off the road.”

The driver may get other citations as the investigation continues, Olden said.
