The downtown portion of Chaparral Street will switch from one-way to two-way traffic starting next month.

According to the city, beginning October 1, Chaparral, between Interstate 37 and Coopers Alley, will be changing from a one-way to a two-way street.

The city says this section of Chaparral is expected to be closed on September 30 for 24 hours to allow for final adjustments to street striping, traffic signals and signage.

Motorists are advised to drive slower and be aware of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction, as parking and driving patterns will change with the new two-way street.

The city says all 18-wheel truck traffic should avoid the Chaparral two-way corridor, as turning movements will be limited.

The conversion is the final phase of the Bond 2008 and 2014 Chaparral Street Improvement Projects.
