Corpus Christi police are busy after an 18-wheeler jack knifed in the area after a fatal accident along southbound Interstate 37 and Redbird Lane.

Witnesses say the driver of the 18-wheeler lost control of his truck and jack knifed right before the Redbird Lane exit near Labonte Park. They say the tractor trailer is blocking traffic and leaking diesel.

Crews have contacted the Texas Department of Transportation to clear the substance from the roadway. Officers are calling for medical personnel to check on the condition of the driver of the 18-wheeler.

Earlier, a fatal one-car accident forced police to shut down several lanes of Interstate 37.

The accident occurred at 11:15 am on the interstate near Redbird Lane.

According to police, the driver has died. Several officers are working the accident but due to high traffic in the area, they are shutting down several southbound lanes.

Corpus Christi Police are asking for drivers to slow down if they are in that area.
