A heavily trafficked area could see more congestion if a plan to build an apartment complex is approved.

We first told you about this on Monday. The area we’re talking about is across the street from Veterans Memorial High School at Lipes and Cimarron boulevards.

Today, we’re hearing from people in the area about the proposed complex and the traffic that could come with it. There’s mixed emotions about this area becoming home to an apartment complex. But everyone we heard from agrees that Lipes should be improved to manage the traffic better.

Two schools use this area for travel which means school zones and a lot of houses surround this area and of course, traffic.

People who travel through the area say it’s not the apartment complex that worries them. It’s the extra traffic that will be a result as they hope Lipes will be improved to handle that traffic.

“I think they should make more room on this road like put another lane,” Adan Martinez said.

Another area resident agrees with that plan with expanded streets in the area.

“I would be okay with the apartment complex coming up right there if they maybe made the road a bit bigger,” Jessica Roberts said.

The developer tells us they want to build the apartment complex here to handle the expected housing need once Del Mar South campus is built. That campus is being built right behind the proposed complex, on Yorktown and Airline.
