Almost a year after Hurricane Harvey, one Island restaurant has yet to reopen
Island Italian is one of the oldest restaurants on North Padre Island. Open for 31 years now, owner Tony Tagliaferro says he grew up working in the kitchen when his father owned it.
But Harvey caused so much damage they lost everything inside. Now, Tony admits, he didn’t expect construction to take this long.
Tony Tagliaferro said “It’s upsetting, like I said I wanted to be open. It brings back a lot of memories you have to relive it all over again.”
Tony says construction is about 90% complete but no exact date has been set to reopen.
