The Nueces County Commissioners today voted unanimously to end the agreement to sell the historic courthouse.

The decision to terminate the agreement comes after Nueces County Courthouse Development Partners LLC, the developer who had planned to renovate the courthouse, failed to meet an August 10 deadline to pay $1.5 million in back taxes on the building.

County Judge Loyd Neal set the repayment deadline for 5 p.m. on Friday. According to county records, the developer has not yet made a payment toward the back taxes.

The sale of the historic 1914 courthouse was finalized in May.
