CORPUS CHRISTI – Police say the freeway was temporarily shut down following a major crash involving two cars, one truck, a motorcycle, and a police car.

The crash happened on SPID near Kostoryz Road around 5:00 am Saturday morning.

Police say the driver of a silver car lost control and struck a red car, both vehicles hitting the walls of the freeway.

Moments later, police say the driver of a truck didn’t see the crash as he was coming over a hump and ended up slamming into the red car on the far left lane.

A Corpus Christi police officer that was on his way to the city’s detention center with a man in custody saw the crash and pulled over to assist the drivers of that crash. Minutes later, a motorcyclist struck the police officer’s patrol car.

In total, four people were sent to the hospital and police say the driver of the red car was in critical condition.
