The Valero Energy Corporation will be donating $100,000 to the Corpus Christi Police Foundation to purchase a second Skywatch Tower.
The FLIR Systems Skywatch Tower is a mobile surveillance platform that extends up to 27 feet in the air. The tower can hold three officers and has cameras that are linked directly to the police command center.
Valero provided the foundation with $102,000 in 2017 to purchase the first Skywatch Tower.
“The visible presence of the Skywatch has been a great deterrent to individuals who may be casing vehicles for an easy theft,” said Chief Mike Markle, Corpus Christi Police Department. “Having a second Skywatch will allow us the great opportunity to extend our reach to other parts of the community.”
The Skywatch Tower has been used at busy events such as Beach to Bay, Fiesta de la Flor and Buc Days.
