A Corpus Christi mother who was arrested after her child died under what police are calling suspicious circumstances appeared in court this morning.
According to an arrest affidavit, Celeste Gonzalez’ 11-month-old son was found dead in a bath tub on July 26 at their home in an apartment complex on Weber Road.
The document says Gonzalez fell asleep after putting the boy’s two-year-old sibling in the tub. She awoke later to that two-year-old standing next to her and pointing to the bathroom. Gonzalez went into the bathroom and found the 11-month-old face down in the tub. The child was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Golzalez has been charged with child endangerment and child abandonment, and prosecutors say they now have evidence that could lead to a murder charge.
Gonzalez remains in the Nueces County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
