SINTON, Texas — A huge steel mill company will soon be operating out of Sinton, Texas.

San Patricio leaders were considering the incentives earlier this year.

Steel Dynamics, Inc., a company out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has announced that Sinton, Texas will be the site for their "new state-of-the-art, electric-arc-furnace flat roll steel mill."

The company says the location has numerous advantages for the industry.

"Sinton is located approximately 30 miles Northwest of the port of Corpus Christi, Texas," their press release says, "Sinton is strategically located within the targeted Southwest U.S. and Mexico market regions, bringing numerous competitive customer and raw material advantages to the project."

Steel Dynamics, Inc representatives say the mill will bring jobs and economic stimulus to the area.

"We anticipate the project will create approximately 600 well-paying positions, and abundant opportunities for indirect job growth from customers and other support service providers, bringing meaningful economic growth to the surrounding communities." said Mark. D. Millett, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The cost of the project is expected to be about $1.9 billion.

Upon approval, the company wants to begin construction at the beginning of 2020.
