CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE: Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid told KRIS 6 News that he has contacted state and veterans officials when Kleberg County will receive vaccines. He hasn't received a solid answer - yet.
While some people are starting to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, others are wondering when it will be their turn to get vaccinated. A Vietnam veteran, 68-year-old John Hicks from Kingsville, has been looking for answers, but has fallen short.
Hicks said he’s been out of his construction job since August. He said he just wants answers on when he’s going to receive the vaccine so he and others can get back to work.
He and his wife recently got sick but don’t believe they had COVID-19.
“We kind of panicked, so I wanted to find out how to get the vaccine,” he said.
Hicks contacted several Veteran Affairs offices, the Kingsville Health Department, his doctor, and the pharmacy at H-E-B, but none of them gave him an answer or have gotten back to him.
KRIS 6 contacted the Kingsville Health Department, who referred us to Madrid.
“When are we going to be on the list? Can they text us? Can they write us a letter? Can they drive through the neighborhood? You know…do something,” Hicks said.
Hicks said he fears to leave the house because he has health issues such as chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and says things will not be the same even with a vaccine.
“There’s no more normal after this, but at least we can walk around and go to the store and not be afraid…quit being paranoid.”
