CORPUS CHRISTI – The Coastal Bend Blood Center needs your blood, especially if you are O positive or O negative.
Due to heavy usage and decline in blood donations during summer time, donors are strongly encouraged to give.
O negative is the universal blood type and the type of blood that leaves the shelves the fastest.
Also, platelets are desperately needed.
Ashley Ramirez with the Coastal Bend Blood Center says “platelets are a clotting factor in your blood and help to heal wounds. So for example, if you cut yourself and a scab forms, that’s your platelets working. Platelets are used by cancer patients and it’s used for traumas and surgeries.”
It takes about 2 hours or less to donate platelets and about 30 minutes to donate blood.
So how do you donate?
