ROCKPORT, Texas — The Aransas County Sheriff's office says the death of an inmate over the weekend appears to have been due to natural causes.
The inmate was identified as 66 year-old-Thomas Kitchens.
He was being held at the Aransas County detention facility in Rockport when, according to a statement from the sheriff, he became unresponsive around 8:20 a.m. Sunday.
CPR was performed and medics arrived but Kitchens was pronounced dead just after 9 a.m.
An autopsy is pending and Texas rangers are investigating the death, which is standard procedure.
