CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Have you ever wondered what happens to the items that don't get sold at Goodwill Stores? They are shipped to the Goodwill Outlet for one last chance for the public to purchase before they're salvaged or recycled.

Later this morning the Goodwill Industries of South Texas will be opening the first ever Goodwill Clearance Store in South Texas.

The Goodwill Clearance Store has the same mission as other Goodwill stores, but this new store allows you to buy in bulk.

The Clearance Store is a store that is a garage sale meets warehouse meets flea market.
The store, which is just over 60,000 square feet, is filled with donated goods such as clothing, shoes, home goods, and electronics.

“This building will also be the new home for our e-commerce, new goods, the distribution center, and now the first Goodwill Clearance Store,” said Goodwill Vice President of Marketing Marjorie Boudreaux.

Goodwill rotates merchandise out of its regular retail stores after a few weeks.

Items not sold in that time frame will be transferred to the Clearance store where they will be placed in more than 80 large bins or on tables for customers to self-sort and purchase by the pound at a substantial savings over Goodwill’s already low prices.
Prices start at $1.49 per pound for 51 pounds or less.

“Items will be placed in bins and shoppers get to “treasure hunt” and dig through the tables/bins to find what their looking for. It’s a new way to thrift shop. Unlike a regular Goodwill store, items will be sold by the pound. It also means approximately 40 new jobs,” said Boudreaux.

At a traditional Goodwill store, items are pulled from the floor after five weeks and sold to a third party. Now, they'll go to the clearance Goodwill.

The new Goodwill Clearance store, located at 4135 Ayers St., will open its doors to shoppers on Tuesday, December 17, at 8:00 a.m. with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, and the public is invited.
The store will be open from 8 AM to 9 PM seven days a week, and with the opening of the Goodwill Clearance Store, there are now 9 Goodwill stores in the Coastal Bend.

When you donate to Goodwill, those donations have the power to change lives
