CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas is considered a hotspot for COVID-19, and with the 2020-21 school year quickly approaching, many CCISD parents said it could be a risky situation opening up schools before a child's safety can be guaranteed.

“I don’t know if they will be taking the actual precautions that they need to keep the kids safe and keep the areas sanitized,” said one mom named Savannah.

Other parents, though, say they need CCISD to reopen schools for face-to-face learning because they can't work from home.

“I’m a working parent," said Vanessa. "I work retail hours. I can’t stay home and homeschool my kid like I would want to, like some parents have the luxury to do. I feel like my kid also has to socialize.”

One woman said she wouldn’t send her child to in person instruction until a vaccine was ready.

“My first option is virtual learning, 'til we have the vaccine," she said. "I know it will take a long time, but we have to wait, we to be patient.”

Brooklyn Martin, a parent, who happens to be an educator, told KRIS 6 what she thought of the plan.

“Honestly I don't feel safe," she said. "I feel like it's being rushed, but as parent and educator, I just have to go with the flow and hopefully they work something out and my son is not affected too much.”
