CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi - Nueces Public Health District has received confirmation of the seventh death of a Nueces County resident due to COVID-19.

The deceased is a male between the ages of 70 to 79 who was originally hospitalized in late May. He was suffering from a variety of ailments including hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease.

The number of hospitalized persons with COVID-19 has increased significantly over a relatively short period of time with 81 currently in the hospital as of Saturday.

Currently, there are no approved treatments for COVID-19 but convalescent plasma treatment has been used to treat severely ill patients. One plasma donation can help treat up to four critically ill COVID-19 patients.

If you have COVID-19 and are recovering, or you have recovered from COVID-19, please consider donating plasma to the Coastal Bend Blood Center. For more information on plasma donation and how to donate, contact the Coastal Bend Blood Center at 361-855-4943. With the increase in the number of hospitalizations, plasma donation is desperately needed.
