Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales announced during our KRIS 6 News Coronavirus Town Hall on Thursday that the county, along with Christus Spohn, now has a machine in place that has the potential to test 500 people a day for COVID- 19.

But its not ready to go just yet.

The county is waiting for a few more steps, including getting the right test kits for it.

"When this happens and we get the machines running and properly outfitted, you're gonna see a drastic change to our ability to test because we want that; we want to test," Canales said. "If we test, we gain knowledge and react and keep us well here in Nueces County."

Canales said she has put in requests to get those kits, but we're not the only county requesting them.

The Nueces Co. Hospital District is scheduled to meet Friday to talk about this device, and we will be there and bring you the latest on what happens
