CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County officials have confirmed another COVID-19 related death.
"Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased," said a release from the city.
The Nueces County Health District confirmed a man in his 40's was hospitalized in June with COVID-19.
The patient's comorbidities included diabetes and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
COVID-19 cases and deaths have been on the rise locally. This is the third COVID-19 death in the past six days.
"Nueces County is also experiencing a huge increase in the number of patients being hospitalized due to COVID-19 like symptoms," says a release from city and county officials. "The combination of increased positive cases and increased hospitalized patients will drive our number of deaths higher."
The county stressed the importance of following health guidelines for everyone, but especially those with diabetes, COPD, chronic kidney disease, or a body mass index of 30 or higher (obese) as they have an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
Officials advise the public to practice the following guidelines to help flatten the curve of the coronavirus.
- Stay at home as much as possible
- Wear a mask when in public and practice social distancing
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Disinfect frequently used areas at home and at work.
