CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Despite the coronavirus pandemic, area coaches still are preparing for next season.

In today's We're Open report, we highlight a locally owned apparel store which has been supplying teams for more than 40 years.

Mira's Sports & More on 6006 Ayers St. has been taking care of teams for generations.

It's been the place for many of our little leagues, city leagues, high school and middle school teams since 1976.

Owner Sandie Morales and her staff are especially busy right now because local sports teams are already placing orders for the upcoming fall season.

“We usually end up doing their custom stuff at the time the coronavirus hit us," said Dino Guillen, Mira's senior sales associated. "And so now this whole month has set us back ... we are scrambling to get them going.”

Veteran Ray High School football coach Craig Charlton has been noodling some changes in his program during the pandemic. He hinted at one today.

“It’s a secret, but Ray is going to have a new look," Charlton said. "We have a new set of uniforms we are going through."

That sounds interesting as the folks at Mira's are still taking care of coaches.

And they are also donating to first responders with a percentage of sales from their custom-made face masks.
