Mathis I.S.D. closes for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year

SAN PATRICIO, TEXAS — Due to fears of the Coronavirus spreading, school administrators with the Mathis Independent School District have decided to for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

In a news release put out by Benny P. Hernandez, the Superintendent of the Mathis I.S.D., stated, "Medical experts have started stated that the peak of the virus has yet to be reached in Texas, Therefore, the return to school on May 5, 2020, is simply not worth the risk for 17 instructional days. And the best interests of the Mathis Independent School District, will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year."

Hernandez added they will continue utilizing the campus instructional program/grading guidelines that were posted online on April 9th and the administrative leadership team will be monitoring and revising the program if needed.
