CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The firefighter being monitored for COVID-19 symptoms has tested negative for coronavirus.
The city also announced that seven firefighters remain in quarantine.
City Manager Peter Zanoni said that two more firefighters had been in close contact to the original six who aided a patient who has tested for coronavirus.
One of the original six were determined to not have been in close contact to the patient and not sent into quarantine.
Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha told KRIS6News, the firefighters may have come into contact with a COVID-19 patient recently.
Rocha says there is no quarantine order issued by the county health department.
The crew members are being monitored under his delegation and adds that as the Corpus Christi Fire Department, he has authority to monitor employees. The firefighters remain isolated at an undisclosed fire department location out of an abundance of safety according to the fire chief.
"The last thing we want is to send them to their families and put them at risk," said Rocha.
