KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Kingsville Independent School district has released a health alert for Nick M. Harrel Elementary.

The district received notification on Wednesday that an individual in attendance at Harrel Elementary received a positive diagnosis for COVID-19. The district says the individual is asymptomatic; however, the individual will be required to self-isolate for 10 days.

Schools principal John Trevino and the school's nurse are in the process of contacting the people who may have been in clear contact with the individual. Close contact is defined as living in the same household, curing for a sick person with the virus, being within 6 feet of a sick person with the virus for at least 15 continuous minutes without the use of a face covering or being in direct contact with the secretions for the sick person.

And for extra precaution, the elementary school will be closed for 24 hours to be cleaned and sanitized according to CDC guidance.

Harrel employees worked from home on Friday. The school principal will contact employees about instructions for conducting work from home on Saturday. Employees may return on Monday, unless they are otherwise contacted by the school nurse or principal.
