CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nearly a dozen states including Texas, Florida, Ohio and Georgia canceled enhanced unemployment benefits this weekend.

Federal coronavirus relief bills had boosted jobless benefits by an additional $300 per week earlier in the pandemic.

Those benefits expire in September, but states have the option to end them sooner.

Some Republican leaders say the extra aid is a hindrance to getting people back to work.
