ALICE, Texas — Vaccines are being distributed in Alice today for the first time.

Some of the people in the back of the line have been waiting here for at least five hours with some of them telling me there needs to be improvements to the event while others find the wait worth it.

The gates opened at 3 a.m. and the event started.at 8 a.m. with Pfizer vaccines being distributed not long afterwards.

The vaccine hub is headed by Christus Spohn Hospital Alice. According to the hospital, they received a total of 975 doses.

They contacted the city of Alice and Jim Wells County to help coordinate the event. People are being held in a waiting area for half an hour before being able to take off to see if they have any allergic reactions to the vaccine.

Some people attending the event have complained that there aren't many accommodations like food trucks for the wait while others are patiently waiting.

"They were clicking as we came through and now you can see I'm not 447 anymore,” event attendee Jane Layssard said. “But as long as I get the vaccine I don't care."

Some of the people here in the waiting area have told me they've been waiting 5 to 6 hours while earlier today people have told me they've been waiting for 9 to 10 hours.

We’ll have more on this story throughout the day.
