ATLANTA, Georgia — According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly 3.5 percent of the 438 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have had to be thrown away.

That total, which is about 15.33 million doses, is still much less than the 5 to 15 percent waste rate for typical vaccines stored in multi-dose vials.

The CDC says it’s working with providers to help minimize future waste.
