CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department is trying to calm shoppers who believe grocery stores could be closed at the end of this week.
Gena Pena, CCPD public information officer, posted a statement that attempted to allay those fears.
"We have been made aware of a rumor that H-E-B will be closing their stores at the end of this week and this is causing people to rush to the stores and panic buy."
Pena continued, "We have reached out to our community partners at H-E-B and they have refuted this and advised that this is NOT true."
Police said H-E-B will remain open and there are no plans to shut any of their stores or operations down.
CCPD also stated they wanted to thank H-E-B workers as they have and continue to work tirelessly to restock shelves during the COVID-19 pandemic.
