FALFURRIAS, Texas — Two businesses were called out for allegedly not enforcing a mandatory mask order, according to the Brooks County judge.

One business owner spoke to KRIS 6 News and said they have been enforcing the order.

The safety of residents and businesses is of the utmost importance to County Judge Eric Ramos, he said.

“We try to do everything we can that the law allows us to protect our citizens, but we have a limit we can go any further than any certain criteria,” Ramos said.

Ramos said two businesses were not following the face mask order mandated by the state.

He said there was substantial evidence to support the claims.

Judge Ramos notified the two businesses and issued each business a warning.

One of the businesses to get a warning was Rudy's Feed Store. Owner Candy Wright told KRIS 6 they have always followed the order and always wear a mask when customers are in the building.

"We at Rudy's Feed Store, we are an open-air business. we don't wear our masks when nobody is in the store, I can tell you that cause it's hot, you know, when you have a 105-degree day, the mask gets uncomfortable outside. But when we have customers in the store, we do follow the mask order," she said.

The fine for businesses not following the ordinance is $250.

There haven't been any fines issues. Ramos said he understands the current financial situation and is glad businesses are now complying.
