CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A rally scheduled to take place next Saturday has made no changes to its plans to gather in support of police, despite the Corpus Christi Police Department's recent request asking the public to reconsider attending public rallies in general.

The Facebook event page, hosted by a business page called "Trump pop up Texas tour," says the event will take place at 5:30 p.m. August 1 in Downtown Corpus Christi.

It also claims that masks will be provided.

"Lets show our Community and assure our Law Enforcement officers are appreciated, for the work they do," says the event page."Wear your blue and come out and show your support for the cause."

A Facebook post to the CCPD page earlier this month asked those planning to attend in-person rallies to reconsider.

"Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Nueces County, our greatest concern right now is for the health and safety of our community members as well as our officers...We suggest that this can be accomplished from the safety of your home, rather than potentially causing harm, illness or greater loss within our community," said a post from CCPD earlier this week.

The event page has been posted since at least July 13 according to Facebook, and as of July 30, organizers posted an advertisement indicating the rally is still on.

KRIS 6 News was unable to reach the organizers of the event for comment.
