CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — 3 firefighters have been placed in quarantine following a possible exposure to COVID-19 from a baby.

The infant, transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital this morning, was determined to show possible symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.

Officials noted the adjusting of personal protective equipment during the transport of the 1-year-old.

"Firefighters removed eye goggles for better visibility while completing procedures during transport to the hospital," said a press release from the city.

In a press conference, City Manager Peter Zanoni reported that Fire Chief Robert Rocha had originally thought four first responders were potentially exposed. He then confirmed that one of the firefighters was released after determining that he was not actually in danger of exposure.

"Since I stated the issues of 4 firefighters, Fire Chief Rocha has informed me that one of the firefighters, upon further review, was not in harm's way - so to speak," Zanoni said. "He is not in quarantine."

The 3 firefighters will remain in quarantine until the patient's test results are available.
