Beeville prison closes its doors

BEEVILLE, Texas — The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has announced that it is going to close the Garza East prison unit in Beeville.

The move is expected to save the state some 20 million dollars a year.

All the employees at the Beeville unit will be offered jobs at other prisons.

Meanwhile, the inmates will be relocated to prisons around the state.

A facility in in Sugarland near Houston will also be closed over the next few months.
