City council candidates who’ve failed to file campaign finance reports gave 6 Investigates plenty of reasons, including some who claim they’ve raised no money, when asked on Wednesday to explain their tardiness.
Four candidates had not filed reports, required by Texas Election Code, as of Wednesday.
They are:
- Mayoral candidate Ray Madrigal “de Pancho Villa.”
- At-Large candidate David Boatright
- District 3 candidate Margarita Fratila
- District 4 candidate Richard Diaz
Madrigal “de Pancho Villa” said he filed under modified rules that free him from filing campaign reports. The city secretary’s office confirms that is not the case.
Fratila tells 6 Investigates she doesn’t see the problem, as she’s raised no money during the reporting period. The same is true for Diaz but, unlike Fratila, he says he hopes to turn in his report on Thursday.
Boatright, who says he’s only raised a few hundred dollars, plans to turn his report in on Wednesday.
