Angleton’s resiliency helped boost the Wildcats into the state Class 5A softball championships against Calallen on Saturday.

The Wildcats notched a 7-6 victory in 11 innings against Forney to meet the Lady Cats.

They will meet Calallen at 3 p.m. Saturday at Red and Charlene McCombs Field on the University of Texas campus in Austin

Earlier in Friday’s game, Forney had scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim a 6-4 lead before Angleton scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score.

It will be the first softball state championship that Calallen has ever played for. Angleton claimed a state softball championship in 1994.

Angleton has a proud athletic history with notable alumni like former Texas defensive back Quentin Jammer, NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Thomas and former Texas defensive back Quandry Diggs. Angleton is about an hour due south of downtown Houston in Brazoria County
