Reality is setting in for the Calallen Lady Cats as they departed for the state softball tournament this morning.
A huge turnout produced a big send-off in front of the high school.
There’s lots to celebrate because the Lady Cats are heading to state for the very first time in softball.
They will play The Colony in the semifinals at 9 a.m. Friday at the Red and Charlene McCombs field at the University of Texas in Austin.
So the excitement is building.
The players know what they have to do. Now, they just have to go out and produce.
“I think we really need to come out strong swinging the bats and being aggressive at the plate and being smart with the pitches and be aggressive on defense,” pitcher Makenna Graves said.
Pitcher Lizette Del Angel said the team needs to play with poise on the big stage.
“We need to be confident the whole way, and not have any doubt,” Del Angel said. “We just need to stay pumped and I think we will be good.”
They appear ready to go.
Jeff Dubrof will be in Austin tomorrow, providing complete game coverage from the very first pitch to post game.
