Back in July of 2018, we reported how the Parker Pool was in need of improvements.
Nueces County, along with the City of Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend Friends of Aquatics were able to come together, finish repairs, and get the Parker Pool thriving again.
“It’s just a place for kids to hang out and go, and stay out of trouble and have fun, bring their friends and just come together, says Coastal Bend Friends of Aquatics member Flo East.
The end of the school year for many students is fast approaching and the start of the summer is right around the corner.
The Parker Pool will be ready to play host for many folks but the pool’s enhancements were not so easy to come by.
Upgrades include a new canopy, furniture around the pool, a fresh paint job, a new roof, and a new water pump motor.
“Particularly proud of this kind of stuff because up to now, we had to run on a short string budget,” says Mark Thomas.
Paying for the upgrades became expensive for the Coastal Bend Friends of Aquatics.
The group sought help and Commissioner Brent Chesney, who represents that area, was able to step in.
Funds from Precinct 4 gave the pool a facelift with water and electricity provided by the City of Corpus Christi.
Volunteers with the Coastal Bend Friends of Aquatics will keep the pool running and say these upgrades are worth it, so children can make long-lasting memories.
A re-opening ceremony will take place at the Parker Pool at 10 am on May 24th, 2019.
